Cyclotron facility

The Center for Molecular Imaging enjoys a partnership with IBA Molecular, which operates a 17-MeV negative ion cyclotron capable of dual-target irradiation with either 16.5 MeV protons or 8 MeV deuterons. Targets include gas-, liquid- and solid-enriched materials for high-yield, high-purity production of Positron Emission Tomography isotopes, including 11C, 18F, 124I. Other isotopes will come online in the near future.

Target recovery facilities are available with remote handling. A hyperpure germanium gamma spectrometer is available for assurance of radionuclidic purity. Currently, radiochemical grade Iodine-124 solution is manufactured under FDA Drug Master File No. 19434 for preclinical and clinical applications.
